Perhaps then you should compare the death rates that China has reported and compare them to everywhere else.

China is very proud of how it has handled the pandemic, and is known for manipulating figures. So the death rates in China are going to be affected by two things. The actual death rate, and Xi's interest in appearing that China is much more able to handle crises like this than democracies, especially the US. I suspect that the latter will dominate.
