This smells of bullshit.

In 1995, 2% of schizophrenia diagnoses in the country were associated with cannabis use disorder. In 2000, it increased to around 4%. Since 2010, that figure increased to 8%, the study found.

If they have percentages, then they have total counts. But for some reason, they didn't include those numbers.

If marijuana were causing schizophrenia, then you'd expect to see an increase in the number of cases beyond what you'd expect from normal population growth. But that's not happening. If it were, then they would have said so. But their total case numbers don't support their claim that marijuana use is harmful, so they left them out.

Here's an alternate theory: Schizophrenics are self-medicating with marijuana. As marijuana becomes easier to acquire, more schizophrenics are using it to treat their symptoms.

If you've smoked pot for any reasonable length of time, you'll know that one of the side-effects is a minor case of paranoia. An advanced form of paranoia is paranoid schizophrenia, which is the most common form of mental illness. A study some years ago on teenagers indicated that those who smoked pot before the age of 20 were more likely to have congnitive difficulties after middle age, normally in the form of slow reasoning skills, though also schizophrenia.
