That's literally what ethnic cleansing is. Nobody's saying Hamas are the good guys. We're talking about the fact that Israel is an apartheid state. Did you know they were best friends with apartheid South Africa?

To me ethnic cleansing has connotations of some kind of physical harm or death as well. Fair enough if you don't agree, maybe that's a matter a of semantics.

Nobody's saying Hamas are the good guys.

People literally are saying that......and they not only also want to remove Jews from that same land (that both sides have occupied for thousands of years) but from existence at all, hence the no sympathy comment. Both sides want to do the same thing to the other side as far as removals go. The one side is crying because they're bad at it. If the situation was reversed, those same people crying would be celebrating with no second thoughts.

No. It's removing an ethnic group from their homeland so you can put your own people there. No wonder, you made up your own definition.

It's not a "both sides" thing. After WWII the Jewish people moved there and removed them from their land, and there is ample evidence of this. Then, Israel instituted apartheid to keep them away. They renamed hills, streets, rivers. They erased their culture from the land. None of this is a secret, but apparently you have no idea.

In fact, Israeli ultranationalists in private conversations even welcome the comparison to Apartheid, because they think Apartheid was gentler than what modern Israel has achieved. Under Apartheid, the black South Africans could travel to white-controlled zones for work. Under the Israeli program the Palestinians languish behind 35-foot-tall concrete walls in what are little more than open air prisons with the Israelis controlling Palestinian access to power, food and water. As the thinking goes, who cares if this radicalizes the Palestinians if they are radicalized on the other side of a wall. Arguably, places like Tunisia or Pakistan are now “more equal” democracies than Israel. (Ugh, I’m going to get so much hate mail for these last two paragraphs.)

It's not a made up definition, it is part of the definition. It can mean either.

As to the next part of your comment, it is way oversimplified and lacking A LOT of information. No Jews didn't just magically show up after WWII, they had a history there for thousands of years just like Palestinians did. The reason this land was given to them was because for their entire history, people had been trying to exterminate them. This included the Palestinians who were allied with the Nazi's during WWII. That's the kind of thing that happens when you lose a war over exterminating a certain race or religion from the earth.....sometimes there are consequences. They are still trying to exterminate them, despite throughout the 90's 2 state solutions were offered which were always either rejected or broken by the Palestinians. They still regularly make attacks on Israelis from civilian areas which is a war crime. They end up killing Palestinians in the process and just view it as collateral damage. When the Israeli's do it as a form of retaliation though, they act like victims and like they didn't provoke the whole thing, then try to get sympathy from the world by only telling half the story (like you are here). Truth be told, I don't really support Israel either, I'm just sick of consistently seeing only one side of the story presented when both parties are guilty.

I used to support Israel, but turns out I only ever heard half the story.

sometimes there are consequences.

So there was ethnic cleansing, but it was OK because the Jews did it. Gotcha.

That's pretty much the Israeli position, actually. When we do it it's OK because it's absolutely necessary, but how dare anyone do the same to us.

It's not. The Israelis want people who signed a rental contract with them and stopped paying off their property. The Palestinians want to end Jews. There's a difference.

Ethnic cleansing isn't ok just because the people you're doing it to are jerks.

The Israelis do indeed want to end these people. You just have to watch their rallies on video and in translation. It's like a Hitler rally. Obviously you only have one side of the story.

Ethnic cleansing isn't ok just because the people you're doing it to are jerks.

That's exactly the point I'm making. I know it's cool to hate the Jews and all, but that doesn't make it ok to kill them.

Also terrorist is not the same thing as jerks. Hamas are terrorists, not "jerks"

[–]Chipit[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (10 children)

It's not hating Jews, as much as you dishonestly attempt to change the subject. It's about being opposed to an apartheid state. Nelson Mandela's ANC invented necklacing and it didn't affect the fact that South Africa was apartheid one bit.

Israel is an apartheid state. That's the point here. If you wish to make arguments against this point, I'll listen.

I'd say it's about being opposed to terrorists. Hamas is a terrorist organization.
