I don't know how anyone thought he Chauvin could get a fair trial. I don't think he's innocent of manslaughter but murder 2 was a stretch.

From a legal perspective, the moment the Jury declared him guilty on all three charges the groundwork for a new trial was set. You cannot intentionally unintentionally accidentally kill someone.
