Can you even imagine a reason why a person would have public ties to US intelligence agencies?

Sure! There are entire think-tanks in DC employing thousands of people with public ties to intelligence agencies. You really didn't know that? Hell, CNN and MSNBC employ spooks as commentators. Can you imagine the depth of corruption in the media that would allow something like that? The media should be exposing them, not paying them!
