Aren't you already required to "surrender" your SSN to buy a gun?

Not really. No more or less than applying for a job or opening a bank account, but they do run your background check and are aware that you purchased a gun. In my state, my CCL allows me to skip background checks altogether and I can buy guns in cash, so the only record of transaction is in the hands of the FFL (or mine or not at all with face-to-face purchases). Some of my friends are paranoid to the point they will only buy new serialized guns if it's something really different and/or cool. Building on AR and Glock 80% lowers is where it's really at right now.
