It's got no legs. The bill violates several civil rights that would make any case that made to court a slam dunk.

Yes, but that's never stopped them before.

You think they care about the law? ESPECIALLY in New York? Hello, what year do you come from?

Yikes. That's insane. What would they even do with that information?

"We see here that you've been posting on Facebook that you like guns. That's suspicious. Application denied!"

I read Homeland Security asks for social media accounts and passwords from people from other countries. I presume they read through it to see if the person has radical beliefs.

more reason to leave social media

FTA: "Democratic lawmakers in New York state are pushing a bill that would require gun purchasers to turn over to the state their social-media profiles and search histories."

The obvious question is how?

How can they prove that you even have or had a social media account at the time of purchase? And how is "social media" being defined? Who keeps access to their search history? They expect you to make backups of that data on every web browser and computer you use?

Regardless of the insanity of it, I don't see anything enforceable here unless you're stupid enough to use your real name for an account.

Aren't you already required to "surrender" your SSN to buy a gun?

Not really. No more or less than applying for a job or opening a bank account, but they do run your background check and are aware that you purchased a gun. In my state, my CCL allows me to skip background checks altogether and I can buy guns in cash, so the only record of transaction is in the hands of the FFL (or mine or not at all with face-to-face purchases). Some of my friends are paranoid to the point they will only buy new serialized guns if it's something really different and/or cool. Building on AR and Glock 80% lowers is where it's really at right now.
