I once saw a highly upvoted conversation on reddit where a bunch of their know it alls were agreeing with each other that fgm came from ancient Egypt and was therefore cultural and therefore couldn't be blamed on Islam. You could even call it ancient wisdom which the evil west should not question.

The trouble is we literally have thousands of preserved vulvas from one culture and that is ancient Egypt. Not one female Egyptian mummy has any sign of fgm.
