Honestly, it's the one legit policy criticism I've had of Trump, the fact that he's worse than any president ever when it comes to spending and not taxing. This started long before the pandemic.
Look, if we want tax cuts, we need spending cuts. If we spend more without taxing, or if we tax less without cutting spending, what you're doing there is selling our kids into slavery on our behalf. It's incredibly immoral.

Nah. Trump has it right: spend, spend, spend while we have control. It's a solid idea. Hand the Democrats a maxed-out credit card and let them be the party of responsibility for once.
Why bother to balance the budget if all Democrats are going to do when they take control again, as must happen again eventually, and undo all the progress we made? And use the money to bribe voters to their side? "Vote for us and we give you free money" is a well-known bug in democracy that always leads to tyranny.
