Of course, it's largely irrelevant at this point. It was always about control..

The majority of Americans are in search of a ruler, a people made to be ruled. BLM, Antifa, democrats, milquetoast Republicans..

The government the democrats want is close.

Oh yes, of course. Everyone's a sheeple but you. How unconforming of you. I bet you're unique like every other snowflake at the starbucks.

  1. This is an opinion piece done in May, and several of its assertions have proven false in the ensuing months. Namely, that public space exposure is minimal, when it has ended up the #1 category in quite a few US states that collect such tracing data. That original guesstimate of 6 minutes, 10 minutes, or 30 minutes, has proven false.

  2. The article states wearing a mask offers little protection from infection, and this is still true. However, what it can do is reduce transmission of infection if you are already infected, which is repeatedly stated by every single article on the subject ever. So the article doesn't support your apparent belief.

  3. That humans have emotional responses out of line with actual probability is well documented and typical among everyone, including you. Because we're really bad at probability. Based on the limited information at the time, mostly lies from China (and I find your reliance on an article quoting China's numbers as authentic while calling people a synonym for sheeple fucking hilarious), this opinion piece assumed very low transmissibility for the public and healthcare workers. This has again proven false.

Like flat earthers, like young earth creationists, like anti-vaxxers, and all the other gaggles of people doing the same thing, use of old opinions, old data, and bad data, combine to construct support for a conspiracy mentality. Finding data to suit your idea of the world, rather than letting the data shape your idea of it.

The working of the masks is to keep us scared, and may prevent herd-immunity. And looking at your reply it seems to work well.

There's a few problems here..

First, i realize that posting such articles is insulting your religion. I'm not trying to be offensive.

What you fail to realize is this isn't the first pandemic the world has seen, it isn't even the first one where the scientific method has been employed to test the efficacy of things, such as cloth masks.

We've had numerous sars-cov or coronavirus, covid like illness (CLI) or influenza like illness (ILI) epidemics/pandemics in the past.

Most famously, scientific studies were done on the efficacy of masks during an actual deadly pandemic, the Spanish flu, and they found that cloth masks are largely ineffective, lest we bring up pig flu, Hong Kong flu etc.

The article falls in line with numerous other studies which show cloth masks are largely ineffective, such as a recent influenza study.

The authors demonstrate that they understand the necessity of masks. Hospital staff (at least until the orange man bad days, or the "Science!" Days) knew that you don't walk around the hospital in a gown, mask and gloves and then walk into the OR and perform surgery. These items are to help prevent outside infections in a somewhat sterile environment. Once finished with the surgery, the items are discarded. They don't reuse them.. At least they didn't, who knows now in a world where men can be women if they feel like it..

As we can see now, science and the scientific method is being replaced with "Science!".. Largely done so individuals like you can feel good about your political posturing and that your god (the govt) is in control and they'll take care of you. The state is the elixir of the masses, you my friend are part of the main congregation..

God's great gift to mankind is the scientific method. The ability to use reason and logic, a process by which we can discover truths of the universe, and new data's are always being discovered. Unfortunately, the data's continue to show that in this case, what you want to believe isn't true. Plenty of studies outside the US continue to demonstrate this. But here, where a man feels pretty and calls himself a Lady, the masses deny truth.

But deep down, I'm sure you already knew that.

You know what's different about this pandemic compared with all the others? The saturation of cell phones and computers has reached a level where complete lockdown and authoritarian control of society is now possible.

Just to add to it:
In the statistics that I saw on countries, there is no difference in the counts when the masks are introduced. This includes the 2-3 weeks delay. There is no statistical difference.

What I did notice is that the cases increased when tourism started. But just marginally.

There was a direct relationship between tests and the amount of positive cases (some virus may have been detected). Because many of these positive cases had no relationship with the health condition, these tests do not have any correlation with the danger that people are in. Many of the tests are probably false positives. But even if they were working correctly, the tests tell how well most humans can handle the virus. And that the virus is far less dangerous than the media and corrupt scientists are claiming.

Now most of the population has reached herd-immunity, the masks are suddenly introduced as a measure. This is far too late, and just preventing herd-immunity.
It is a political trick that has nothing to do with actual science, but is pushed to keep us scared.

But 'muh testing' the sheeple will say without understanding that the testing can literally be attuned too sensitive purposely so that irrelevant fragments are detected instead of actual wuhan flu viruses.

The authors of a medical journal article that questioned the use of masks outside health care settings say they support widespread mask wearing when people are in close quarters and that their words have been taken out of context.

"We understand that some people are citing our perspective article as support for discrediting widespread masking. In truth, the intent of our article was to push for more masking, not less. It is apparent that many people with SARS-CoV-2 infection are asymptomatic or presymptomatic yet highly contagious and that these people account for a substantial fraction of all transmissions. Universal masking helps to prevent such people from spreading virus-laden secretions, whether they recognize that they are infected or not," the three authors wrote in the letter.

Ironic.

The authors of a scientific article, where precision and accuracy mean everything, complaining that the article they wrote doesn't mean what it says..

Even science and reason can't stand on it's own now, it must bow to a narrative.

A people made to be ruled.

this is similar to how the CDC website on friday said this is an airborne illness (duh) but then yesterday deleted it off their website after politicians had been arguing with them all weekend. Scientists having to backtrack and deny what they previously said. Masks don't work since the virus is miniscule and easily goes thru clothe (if molecules can't get thru the mask you'd iterally not be able to breathe). But this shows they just did it for psychological reasons. That's what reducing transmission of anxiety means. They don't want people to panic as 200k died.

The COVID-19 pandemic has revived a decades-old debate about how respiratory diseases travel—which affects the safety practices experts recommend.

This mouth-made mist is the subject of a great debate about how the coronavirus hitches a ride from person to person. Virus-riddled globs can be inhaled, or even land in the eyes, potentially sparking infections in others. But for respiratory diseases like coronavirus, it’s long been thought these droplets are so large they will fall rapidly to the ground, inspiring public health recommendations such as cleaning surfaces and keeping six feet of social distance.

For respiratory diseases like coronavirus, it’s long been thought these droplets are so large they will fall rapidly to the ground... and be blocked by masks.

What does the airborne squabble mean for you?

Here is what’s clear: The coronavirus jumps between people in close proximity. Whether that happens because of aerosols, droplets, or some combination, most recommendations remain the same: Avoid crowds and face-to-face chats even while wearing a mask. Masks help stanch the spray, particularly for larger droplets, so people should still wear them, but the potential for aerosol transmission means more tactics may be needed for stuffy rooms.

it's like they're still arguing over the germ theory of disease. I guess they just don't want businesses to have to get new costly air filtration systems.

[–]FreedomUltd 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

It's more like airborne is determined by particle size, particle size is a continuum, and the cutoff point is not universally agreed on. Airborne usually implies a virus much more contagious than covid-19. Learning about this virus began just months ago, so as knowledge increases understanding of it changes. It may be transmitted in smaller droplets than believed previously, but infection also requires greater exposure, which is another factor that makes it less contagious than a virus like the measles. The issue here is that "airborne" is problematic terminology... and yes, there is a concern that people who don't understand this will react irrationally.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I think viruses are pretty small so can easily float in air for hours. I think regular flu is transmitted that way too, that's why it mostly spreads in the winter when we're all stuck in doors. But yeah what do we do about it. A lot of businesses already put in new air filtration systems in the last few decades, now tell them those were not enough?

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

to me this doesn't make sense but I wish I could get a health care professional's opinion. To me, wearing a mask for 8 hours or more causes anxiety and stress, not removes it. But maybe health care professionals feel different. This reads like they were worried people would quit their jobs cuz of the risk but I don't think any would cuz they need the money.

I have sinus issues and makes make me uncomfortable all day long. I fucking hate them and realize they are useless. What isn't useless? Washing your hands.

[–]GConly 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I've seen some decent research that suggests the masks cut down the severity, if not the chances of catching it.
