In today's world where there are 20+ types of birth control, 5 cent condoms (even free ones at every health clinic), easy access to sex education online, apps to track your cycle, cheap ovulation tests, and even the morning after pill, is abortion really THAT essential when there are already 20+ choices (many non-invasive) and the knowledge of risk? Not to mention that there are plenty of non-PIV ways to be intimate if you're ovulating.
In a perfect world we'd have lots of choices and 0 abortions. Maybe one day we'll strive for that, especially since abortion is not 100% healthy for the woman getting one (physically and mentally), and can honestly be quite traumatic and cause infertility issues down the line.

The trouble is no contraception is 100% effective. Many abortions happen because other contraceptives fail. I mean the pill is only 99% effective which means it fails 1% of the time. When you think about all the millions of people having sex that's a lot of pregnancies.

One percent fail rate per year, if used 100% correctly.
If you depend of the pill your whole adult life, there's a very good chance you'll get pregnant.

I'll also add that the pill hasn't even existed for the duration of a human life. The pill has effects on the body that won't be understood for hundreds of years--possibly even birth defects. There are already cases where women who stop the pill after a decade are unable to become pregnant.

Having said that: I have PCOS, being on the pill stopped me developing ovarian cysts and kept me fertile.

18 years old to 40 years old assuming one has intercourse at a normal frequency: 0.9922 = 0.8
If the goal is to accidentally get pregnant while on the pill, chances are it'll never happen.

And yet here my daughter is.
That also assumes perfect use, and people are imperfect.
