Seems like a good idea.

New Jersey drivers, the state is ready to pump you up.

On Friday, the Garden State announced an impending gas-tax hike of a whopping 9.3 cents per gallon, reported Philadelphia TV station WPVI.

The new rate goes into effect Oct. 1.

Pointing to fewer drivers on the road amid the coronavirus outbreak, the state treasury department claims the exorbitant increase is necessary to ensure enough cash fills the coffers of the Transportation Trust Fund program.

Former New Jersey governor Chris Christie signed the TTF program into law in 2016. It’s required to provide $16 billion over eight years to fund much-needed infrastructure improvements for bridges and roads.

The law also demands that the gas tax be adjusted accordingly to generate roughly $2 billion per year.
