Check out the violence in Chicago. Nobody gets angry about the people killing each other. But boy, a police shooting, that's in the single digits in a year? There's the problem!

The US government used to have no income tax and was funded mostly by tariffs.

Now Americans scream tariffs should be increased while keeping the income tax.

WTF?

The US used to be 90% white. During the depression people would avoid getting welfare to the point of near starvation. We are not the same country we used to be and there is no way we could cut back government that much.

Yes, we should try. But we should not be focused on how taxes are collected but how they are spent. We spend about 30 billion dollars a month in interest on the national debt. Just the interest alone. We could easily say we simply won't pay any more interest. The claim that this would destroy our ability to borrow is nothing more than a lie. We can literally print money, like the Federal Reserve does. It make absolutely no sense what so ever that the Fed is allowed to print money to loan to the US and collect interest on it. We should march the army into the mansions of the money printers and put them into concentration camps so they don't wage economic warfare against us while we reform the system.
