Such concerns were highlighted when a Predator drone was spotted over Minneapolis during protests that turned violent in May.

You know what? I'm completely fine with the government at the very least monitoring when hundreds of people are looting, rioting, burning, and in some cases murdering their neighbors. Apparently police aren't able to do so much as use tear gas or arrest rioters, much less shoot anyone committing violent felonies now. If they can't even look at crime in progress then we're going to be on a clear path to anarchy.

The lives of thousands have people in Minnepolis have been ruined by these idiots. Entire businesses are gone, many of them minority owned. But the government can't do anything because of "muh privacy"?

Bring on the drones! You have no right to privacy in public, especially when you're fucking over your neighbor.

Why do they need drones? Drones don’t stop riots.

Logistics and seeing where the most people and fires are so the limited police resources can be most efficiently directed.

In other words, the same reason police use helicopters. Drones are just cheaper and can stay in the air longer.

I’m honestly not sure if a predator drone is cheaper than a police chopper.

It's not even close. Drones, at least the small unarmed ones just meant for surveillance, are massively less expensive than a helicopter both to buy and operate. Plus, you presumably don't need the same amount of training as a helicopter pilot to fly them.

LUNA mid-sized drone, $310,000.

"A police helicopter costs from $500,000 to $3 million to acquire, and $200-$400 an hour to fly."
