Hey, Bill. How come your own children are not vaxxed? Hey, Bill. Bite my clank.

"Digital Rubicon?" What is that supposed to mean?

I refer you HERE. It means to do something irrevocable, something that cannot be undone but the situation is not necessarily going to have a bad outcome as when Julius Caesar actually did cross the Rubicon the result was quite positive for him, at least in the short run. Digital Rubicon is an extension of the meaning to include the online world.

I know what the Rubicon is. I went to school. Thanks.

No insult intended. I'm sure there are lots of US college students who have no idea what it means.

It's still a terrible metaphor.

There is a lot of historical context before and after the Rubicon that make it important, with winners and losers, etc. Was Gates in a digital boat when he crossed it? Was that digital boat the mass media? Who are the digital casualties? What is the digital fallout? How abstract can we get here? At what point do we stop drawing comparisons?

Good point. I agree the metaphor was not the best but I do hope Bill's boat hits a digital iceberg. Va Tout seems to be his watchword and I wish him the worst of luck.

LOL. I share your digital dreams. Unless you're Tyler Durden I don't hold the bad pun against you, and even if you are TD, I'll forgive you as you've written so many great articles and was a great character in that movie that, of all of the successful Hollywood content that should be copied and regurgitated, mysteriously hasn't been.

What does it mean to cross the Rubicon? To cross the Rubicon is a metaphor which means to take an irrevocable step that commits one to a specific course. When Julius Caesar was about to cross the tiny Rubicon River in 49 B.C.E., he quoted from a play by Menander to say "anerriphtho kybos!" or "let the die be cast" in Greek.

they stuck "digital" in there because Bill Gates.
