Good old media, accusing everyone of racism while doing it themselves. The "sick man of Asia" is an old trope from the colonialism era. They might as well have thrown in "yellow peril" for good measure.

Honi soit qui mal y pense, as they say. The term is more widely thought of as it applied to both Turkey and Austria-Hungary at various times.
