In Seattle there was a hit and run. Nobody much was hurt. The police went to the address used to registrar the car. The lady who lived there said she knew who the driver was and would contact him. The police falsely said there was a critical injury and that someone might die.

The lady contacted the driver. She told him someone was in hospital. She told him to get a lawyer. Overcome with guilt he killed himself.

Commentary

The police had no obvious reason to lie. They seem to have done it for fun. On the other hand the man's suicide could not have been foreseen by a reasonable person. The lie did not lead directly to the man's death.

Still it was a dick move.
