Please do make up your mind. The American College of Pediatricians is a right-wing group with a few hundred members. They spend their time yelling about Gay people.

More to the point, the story you linked to mentioned the real professional group, the American Academy of Pediatrics in the second paragraph. They have made no such statement. It seems that whoever wrote the article is trying to lie to you or is just too dumb to see he is conflating two different groups.

Children are prevented from making decisions for themselves until they are "of age" to have the capacity of mind to understand the long term consequences, as an adult would, of these decisions. How wise were you at 10, 11, 12? In your case probably about the same. However most people develop significantly more agency and understanding by their late teens. Transgendering a child has long term physical, mental and emotional effects that often is not entirely reversible. So yes, encouraging or implementing it is indeed child abuse. Therapy and counseling can help to weed out gender dysmorphia until they are of age to make their own decisions and mutilate their genitals whenever they please.

It's understandable; you've fallen victim to a logical fallacy. It can happen to a lot of people if they're not careful.

Your logical fallacy is... the fallacy fallacy. You presumed that because a claim has been poorly argued, or a fallacy has been made, that the claim itself must be wrong. This argument is of the form: Argument A for the conclusion B is fallacious. Therefore, B is false.

Has nothing to do with the incredibly harmful idea that innocent children should be harmed by powerful hormones or mutilated by irreversible surgery. That's why these pediatricians spoke out, at substantial risk of backlash of harassment to their careers and families.

The headline says the American College Of Pediatrics made the statement. This seems to be true. They are a fringe group that makes its living saying such thing. The second paragraph claims the mainstream American College of Pediatricians made the statement. That does not seem to be true.

At the very least, the story is saying two groups made the same statements.
