The Amish practice of allowing their teenagers access to the worldly life style is one of the least known and most brilliant religious practices I know of.

Rumspringa is the Amish adolescent rite of passage. It translates to “jumping around.” The vast majority of Amish youth heartily participate, get it all out of their system, and then return to appreciate their traditional conservative life style.

They’re not just allowed but encouraged to do things like drink, party, talk on the phone (!!), and anything else you can think of. Of course occasionally this does lead to the occasional run-ins with the law — for example several years back when a couple Amish got busted for running a drug ring with the biker gang the Pagans:

I think the cop should have poured their beer out and let them buggy on home, like cops did us when they'd catch us with a bit of weed as a teenager.

This might be the wildest night they'll ever have — give them a break.
