On Oct. 1, 2017 "The Las Vegas Shooting" occurred. Early reports of the shooting alleged that the top floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel was owned by a group of Saudi princes and Bill Gates.

On November 4, 2017, it was reported that a plane containing sixteen Saudi princes was shot down while attempting to leave the country (SA). In the following weeks as many as 500 princes, government ministers, and business people were arrested in Saudi Arabia in what appears to have been a corruption crackdown. All detainees were kept at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Riyadh. Supporters of the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, have defended the crackdown as necessary to shock the Saudi elite out of longstanding habits of graft and self-dealing.
