How do we know they are Hong Kong protestors and not Chinese trying to make them look bad?

Hong Kongers are Chinese, genius.

It's from LIHKG, a pro-independence forum. Read more: https://i.imgur.com/YptzTdv.jpg

Thanks for providing the source, that places it all a bit more into context than just a random screenshot.

Hong Kongers are Chinese, genius.

If you know anything about the protests you would know what I meant, but I'll elaborate:

That's China-talk: The status of Hong Kong is complex. Beijing is responsible for appointing the Chief Executive of Hong Kong. However, Hong Kong acts like an independent country in many ways. The protest began over an extradition law from Hong Kong to China. (Here you can read the 'mini-constitution' created as part of 'The Hong Kong Handover' in 1997: https://www.basiclaw.gov.hk/en/basiclawtext/images/basiclaw_full_text_en.pdf)

The fact that at least some protestors are angry with his comments is obvious: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/2019/10/15/lebron-james-no-longer-king-james-for-hong-kong-protesters/40321229/

James stressed that he did not consider Morey to be "misinformed" about his understanding of the Hong Kong protests. Instead, James believed Morey remained "misinformed" on how China would react to his tweet. James reiterated that message in a pair of tweets shortly after speaking to reporters.

Yeah, now they're calling him Qing James.

Hong Kong people are Chinese. Ethnic Han, if you want to be pedantic. Hong Kong was part of China until it was separated by racist British after their illegal Opium War. Now it's coming back. The future of Hong Kong is a southern extension of Shenzhen.

Hong Kongers can shake their tiny racist fists all they want, they're rejoining the motherland and undoing a wrong done to China 150 years ago.

Because some protestors are racist you want to condemn the whole to Chinese Dictatorship?

The rhetoric that Hong Kong is racially Chinese and therefor belongs to China is racist.

It certainly is a fitting punishment for a bunch of vile racists though, don't you think? It's not exactly social justice but it'll do.

The rhetoric that Hong Kong is racially Chinese and therefor belongs to China is racist.

The rhetoric is that Hong Kong was Chinese territory until it was ripped away by the illegal Opium War. Thus it must be returned, and that's exactly what's happening right now.

No, not everyone in Hong Kong is a racist and I don't wish living in a dictatorship upon anyone.

Thus it must be returned, and that's exactly what's happening right now.

It's not being returned, their special status is still maintained. 150 years ago China wasn't what it is today, Hong Kong is right to want independence.

If racism is the big gripe, why not support Hong Kong Independence as a punishment towards China for being racist?
