The research by Elaine D. Eaker ... found that more men than women had a tendency to bottle up their feelings during confrontations with partners.

One popular phrase among psychologists is "the distancer (males) and the pursuer (females)"

"men tend to resort to aggression very quickly, whereas women are more manipulative"

Interesting article.

But maybe she didn't overdose, if you can believe this theory. The cigs and change in her hand don't necessarily prove she was fine enough to go hit up a cig machine, but if true it would raise some questions.

Heroin addiction has ruined so many lives, of those who had partners at the time, and many others, and the initial reasons to try heroin are numerous. Regarding her depression, my personal view is that this was related to more than just the selfish men in her life. For example, she was never really accepted in her home town, which was very sad for her. This is discussed frequently, but here's a reference: https://www.vintag.es/2021/08/joplin-high-school-reunion.html

For what it's worth, I think it's not fair to Janis to refer to her as having a 'butter face' and to say that she killed herself because of a boyfriend dumping her, especially when we know she was addicted to heroin and had been depressed. There are so many ways in which depression and heroin are reasons for overdoses or accidental death (heroin overdose was suggested, but not proven), many of which are not solely related to an ex-boyfriend. Even if one wants to argue that the call from the boyfriend was the 'last straw', we cannot honestly say that this is proof that she at that point decided - "well alright then, I will kill myself because of that asshole". If she had left a suicide note, perhaps that would have been evidence. Her ongoing depression and heroin additiction are to be looked at first, before assuming that she was stupidly deciding to end it all because of an asshole boyfriend. My point is that we don't know and we shouldn't insult her memory with this idea that she didn't want to live because of one of many asshole men that took advantage of her at the time. And I am not saying this as part of a debate. I am saying this because we should learn from Janis about her, about depression, about heroin addiction, and not assume that she was an idiot, even if there is the potential that she made an idiotic decision while under the influence of drugs. Here's another theory about the cause of death: https://www.thesound.co.nz/home/music/2018/10/janis-joplin-overdose-death-peggy-caserta.html /u/Popper /u/jet199

She was bisexual so not really holding out for Chad, no.

Rather she expected the men around her (making money because of her) to be decent friends, like women would be, but of course they all blew her off at the first sign of a groupie so she was left on her own a lot of the time.

I assume you have a VPN but even that doesn't guarantee they won't steal your data. I put anything like bank accounts of other identity info on a small external HD and only connect it when needed. ExpressVPN is good, simple, and costs about a hundred bucks for a year or more if they are feeling generous. You could even put some made-up personal info on your main HD desktop and let them try to use that. If they want to get in, they will but keep the important stuff on the little external drive. Maybe you already knew this: 🧐

David Bowie almost loses his composure when Annie gets up close at the end. Come on girls, post some of your favorites by women. In my opinion, he wasn't gay—he had a thing for Black women.

You can guess the period from the lovely Low-Res. The group were Dutch and this hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100. It was one of about thirty records my Dad owned. Oh, yeah, it was covered by Bananarama.

Perhaps interesting (and inspirational) to know: this singer-songwriter is deaf. She lost her hearing at the age of 18, but did not let that stop her from having a music career.

I think when Dave Stewart broke up with Annie Lennox, he foresaw a wonderful future but nothing from him at all. Meanwhile Annie, well, you know.

This song was written about a real woman called Erzsébet Báthory, who is believed to be the most prolific female murderer although some still believe the entire story was a conspiracy to take down a woman who was considered far too powerful back then: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Báthory

I think none, but Dusty worked with Carol Pope (they were also together) in her White Heat album. I think she wrote her 2 or 3 songs.
