What about this type of sound do people find appealing?

I'm sure that's subjective for many people, but it's described as "Ethereal" sounding music. I personally like their sound and lyrics.

The song I shared is from the myspace era lol, this is from them one month ago, maybe you'll like their newer stuff better:

They aren't an emo or hardcore band.. If you actually heard emo or hardcore (screamo) music side by side this, you'd ask politely for this. There is some emo music that is so bad and exists for no reason lol, this song is literally about being "apart of a vampire squad and liking blood" lol I miss the myspace era, I was only there for the ending :( like a year or two man.

I probably have a weird taste in music, but rarely listen to it. Very much prefer the ambient sound of my environment. Teapot boiling, clock ticking, keyboard clicking.

Computer is still struggling to load my thousand tabs, so that last link froze my screen and played for a minute or so... The vocals suck, but the rest is not 'too' awful. Can't stand the first two. They grate on the ear.

Kind of like this new music, a bit ironically in this case because of my time on the East German border in the army. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rr8ljRgcJNM

Hard rock from the 60s and 70s can be good, as in Jefferson Airplane/Starship, Blue Oyster Cult, The Scorpions, and such. The soundtrack from Natural Born Killers is pretty killer. St. Tarrant had a pretty listenable soundtrack too.

The video elevates this off the scale, but the music itself is 11/10. https://saidit.net/s/videos/comments/8jo2/south_africa/

I just started getting into that type of music a few years ago.. There was a time period where I wouldn't listen to anything before the late 80's at the most lol. I was very closed-minded musically. Now I like everything, from a good Fallout sound track to Frank Zappa or Yes or King Crimson. King Crimson was actually what opened me up to all of these bands, I borrowed one of my dad's records when I still lived at home and was bored and it had the most interesting artwork out of the collection which is why I picked it and gave it a try.. Wasn't disappointed, In the Court of the Crimson King is amazing.. Epitaph, 21st century are classic/golden songs from that era imho haha.

I've got a t-shirt with this album cover on it. I always wear it when I go to see my dentist.

Haha. My mom wouldn't let me go to Woodstock, but I did make it to Concert 10 in the Poconos, and 40 to 50 concerts of the hottest bands back then. Being nabbed by security for a search, and taping stuff under the table while waiting my turn. lol Somehow survived all that.

I'm pretty confident you're joking, I know you know this type of music haha, but just in case for anyone who sees this because when I first heard this band I said/thought the same thing too tbh, the singer of this band was also the singer of Saosin. He is Anthony Green (and no, he's not a female to male tranny, he has a wife and two children despite sounding like a eunuch lmfao): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Green_(musician)

He has a rare vocal range and natural voice.

The style of singing that he does naturally without trying is actually a skill that takes people many years to acquire; it's calling "flawlessly singing head/mixed pushed falsetto", which is more common among female singers but still difficult to achieve due to pushing your vocals out through your throat with gentle force and contracting your vocal chords precisely, rather than them coming from your chest and lungs. Having this technique down is called using head/mixed voice; 90% of modern male singers use their chest voice.

See here:

https://www.wikihow.com/Sing-Falsetto

https://ramseyvoice.com/head-voice-falsetto/ (There's some debate over Head Voice and Falsetto being different, some people called it "mixed voice" which is hard to do flawlessly and that's just his natural voice combined with how he started singing lol) https://www.reddit.com/r/singing/comments/2uarto/falsetto_feels_forced/

The style in which he sings, a pushed, head voice falsetto, is incredibly hard to do. Instead of singing regularly from your chest, you tighten your vocal chords precisely and use your throat as the chamber and filter for your oxygen to sing, rather than your chest/lungs. This band will be remembered as one of the few good bands from the myspace era. If they came out in the late 60's people would call them progressive rock.

Think of Tiny Tim, he was a falsetto (albeit bad one lol), he wasn't a natural, classical and flawless pushed falsetto like Anthony Green is. Anthony Green could sing classical era music live and it would sound beautiful lol.

Today everyone learns!

Shit I honestly thought it was a woman. But he honestly sounds awesome and unique. Shit this happened when I first heard Rush too. Maybe I'm half deaf :D

Thanks for keeping us old folks in the loop.

Damn, I don't think I've ever seen anyone share a Rush song here, Rush is pretty dope tbh. I didn't like them when I was younger (dad moosic), but I like all genre's of music now as long as it sounds good and I can relate/move to it.

And lmfao, I didn't either! When I first heard this song when I was 13/14, I was either at a friend's house or talking to them on AIM, because they sent me a YT link to an interview with Anthony Green. I couldn't believe that voice was coming out of that man.

Dude had a short haircut with a fade, and a full beard and looked like a lumber jack lol. Nothing physically feminine about him at all, but his signing is very feminine, I actually like that about his art.

Edit: btw, I think the real pandemic is an age virus (half kidding.. i think the isolation is affecting people's sense and awareness of time.. it's rly fuking with ppl psychologically). I swear 2 god, everyone around me is calling themselves "old" all of the sudden. I'm in my twenties, am I old? lol I feel the zoomer/millenial/boomer thing is truly confusing people, if you go to some websites it'll say I'm a millennial, if I go to another I'm a zoomer, I'm a 90's baby.

Honestly.. do the math. The majority/at least half of the people born in the 90's are just hitting their 20's or getting towards the middle of it and haven't turned/aren't near 30 (1/3 are still in school, 1/3 can't find well paying jobs, and at the higher range of 90's babies (born in the early 90's), their ages range from like 27-31 - a lot of these people aren't married and 2/3rds of them still live at home lol).

At that Travis Scott festival, one of the people who died was 27-years-old (they'd be considered part of the older 90's babies); that shows you the mindset of current 20 year-olds (not only that - the culture - they listen to the same music as "zoomers", grew up on the same music, same games, everything was the same - yet we treat these as two different generations?), as well as with the current financial, economic situation taken into mind? The media acts like we have 10-12 year-old children and comment on our parenting styles lmfao! Those are the children of generation x! The majority of 90's babies haven't gotten married or had children yet; the majority haven't hit 30 yet.

But really, do the math, you'll see 90% of people considered "millennials"/born in the 90's aren't close to, or are 30 yet.

I'm a casual Rush listener. Their radio hits were enough for me I guess. But their drummer or former deceased drummer is widely regarded as top 5 ever. They have some zany deep shit that I hope to rummage through someday.

And lmfao, I didn't either!

Whew, I don't feel like such a scumbag after accidentally insulting Circa Survive. I agree, he doesn't look feminine at all. There was some other more popular band with a singer like this... fuck I forget their name but I ruined one of their live set finales once by being too stoned to hoist the guy up into the handicap section when he tried to walk straight uphill. My party had a service dog and shit, I's chillin. Some band like Muse or Tame Impala.

but his signing is very feminine, I actually like that about his art

I dig it. My bro Maynard Keenan started a whole feminine band on purpose. A Perfect Circle. Meh. I like the Violent Femmes.

I swear 2 god, everyone around me is calling themselves "old" all of the sudden. I'm in my twenties, am I old?

Fuck, guilty as charged. But goddamn it I lived it. Don't diet, live it. You're not old until you're 27.

The media acts like we have 10-12 year-old children and comment on our parenting styles lmfao! Those are the children of generation x!

Touche my man. This would be a good essay. I hit 40 and I'm still dumb as rocks. Supremely under-qualified. But my kids will be in the militia, no pussy C02 shit.

damn, haven't thought of/listened to them forever lol thanks for the reminder

The band I fucked up is Silversun Pickups. This guy sings very uniquely too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-mxBDuRaZ8

I'm in my twenties, am I old?

People are kids until somewhere around 40-45, +/-. Then they're adults for 20-30 years before hitting OAF status.

Unofficial scale, but pretty accurate. lol

You're a wise old bastard Node

Opinionated and somewhat knowledgeable, but wise might be a stretch. I have been around for awhile though. You pick up on a lot the short-timers miss.
