I've always been fascinated by the old Pink Floyd and Barrett's solo work. Gilmour also produced the Madcap Laughs if I'm not mistaken and The Soft Machine(who shared the stage with Pink Floyd in the early days at the UFO club) are the backing band.

Their name, Soft Machine, comes from the title of a William Burroughs novel, but you already knew that, right? Burroughs used to hang out with Patty Smith at those hip New York clubs like Hebbie Jebbie, Mud Club and the most famous that I forgot the name of. As the cliche goes, it's all connected man. 😲

I see you're a connoisseur as well!

Didn't the guys give him writing credits after he left the band so he and his mother would always have money coming in?

It sounds like something they would do but this is the first I've heard of it. Thanks

I think so. I know he wrote a couple of song on The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and one song on Saucerful of Secrets which I believe he received royalties from long after his departure from the band. It's a tragic story really. There's this sad anecdote of Waters about a bald and fat weirdo brushing his teeth compulsively and hanging out in the studio where the band was. Waters later realized it was Syd and he started sobbing.

He wrote 90% of that record.

Here's a picture of it: http://cultstories.altervista.org/wp-content/uploads/syd-barrett-cult-stories-music-pink-floyd-2.jpg
