Sales stats and radio play seem to indicate that hip hop is far from dumb plastic noise.

Is it any surprise, coming from the race that invented jazz, the blues, and rock and roll?

This 'jazz' is not just a black thing or a Wakanda We Wuz Kangz thang... it is a NYC melting pot fusion of Afro rhythms and European harmony and other cultural inputs, without the White or other cultural influences it would be a bunch of out of tune people playing bum notes, although in time because Africans mostly had a natural dance and could at least beat a drum back in the days. Jazz with no European classical influence would be out of tune flat notes on some honky guitar, yes Africans made a major contribution but not the only contribution to American music. if you don't fully hear the European and other influences in jazz chord, composition and harmony then you clearly are someone who is tone deaf. Also stats and radio play mean nothing, i can mention plenty of songs that are simple to play almost handicap low iq retard levels when it comes to musicianship but they made a shit ton of money. Who or what group do you think makes the money, laughs and has parties as a military complex wages war sucks taxes? Profits on the prison system, profits on the songs of rage, degeneracy and rap and other gutter culture.

That's a good point about jazz, I guess I'll have to retire that from my argument.

Sometimes retard level music is good music though, it doesn't have to be fancy for people to like it. You know, casual listeners who want good beat so they can half dance in their car. There is and has been cultural manipulation, and there's manipulation of what's popular, but past all of that there really is truly popular stuff.

Sales and air-time hardly dictate quality. In fact I would argue they result in the opposite, appealing to the lowest common-denominator. Rap is for the brain-dead among us.

Lowest common denominator = most mass appeal

And you sound like a fellow old man saying rap. That genre is no longer popular.

I can agree with you that gangster rap doesn't have much to offer.

I'm 30, so I'm not sure if that makes me a old man. But mass-appeal is still generally not something I associate with being objectively good, usually it's the opposite. Maybe I'm a typical elitist metal fan, but I find rap/hip-hop to be mind-numbing and conceptually shallow and lowbrow.

Well metal is certainly a genre that also gets called mind numbing. To each their own I guess.
