I had to explain why circumcizing your baby boy was unethical to one of my friends the other week, always surprises me to see so many people not even give it a second thought. Fortunately she agreed, though I can't say the same for others that still try to defend it. They're usually in denial and don't want to accept that they were violated by their parents. Most people don't even know its origins. Society's view on this is so warped. As a child I used to wish I was circumcised because I'd see so many others get shamed for it, and then I grew up and realized how unethical it was. I'm thankful that my parents never did that to me.

I had to explain it to my wife for our son. Glad we got ahead on that discussion, as it took her many weeks to accept the facts, and our son is not circumcised. My folks were genuinely remorseful at having circumcised me, but I don't hold it against them. They tried to make the best decision they could at the time, didn't know, and sought the advice of someone who should have known but didn't. It's not like they didn't care, it's just that the weight of popular appeal can just be so overwhelming.

Yea, I think most parents do it because they're misinformed and don't know any better. It's good you don't hold it against your parents. I do feel that the majority just don't understand the ethics of it. More people should recognize this issue and bring it up more, especially when it concerns their own child. I know it sounds silly but I feel like there's some sort of division between uncircumcised and circumcised men sometimes, when instead we should come together and understand that we have a right to make these decisions ourselves. Like that body positivity bullshit y'know, stop shaming each other and shit.
