Anyone else think people should have the right to end their life if they want? It'd be interesting to see how those people fared after being "saved"

Nope.

As someone who's been suicidal it comes over you in a wave and if you hang on through that wave you get to the other side. It's not a rational decision. Your brain gives you loads of rational excuses to kill yourself but the driving force is the wave of emotion which is completely irrational and temporary.

Goethe already asked this question in the 18. century. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sorrows_of_Young_Werther

After the release of this book a "wave" of suicides followed. I think that is why it was never declared "standard" literature.
