This procedure was a predecessor of Electro Convulsive Therapy (ECT) wherein a mental patient was given an electric shock or series or shocks directly to the head. This earlier form of treatment was usually referred to as the BFH Method or Big Fucking Hammer. At times doctors opted for the LFH Method or Little Fucking Hammer Method. Surprisingly both methods achieved some success at calming patients suffering from Hysteria and other conditions and many asked that the treatment be repeated periodically.
