These are classic examples of politicians betraying the trust of their naive base.

Thanks captain literal, but it is a metaphor.

Both the good cop and bad cop are trying to get the public's vote, instead of a false confession.

The public caves every time!

It's not a metaphor. They were/are the head of the executive branch.

Also, they don't work together.

The comparison simply doesn't work.
