Anonymous Officials Claim There’s An Evil Russian Plot Again But The Evidence Is Secret Again. Apparently journalists are just passing on unverified government assertions made by unknown spies to their readers because they were told to, which I guess is something journalists can do now?

That's something journalists have been doing since the CIA was created. All major news outlets employ at least one CIA agent in a position to decide what does and does not get published.
