There's no way a standardized dataset relating to IQ exists for every nation on Earth. Much of this must be made up.

*** here is more info on the "dataset" https://www.researchgate.net/project/Worlds-IQ

Also, it doesn't seem like the IQ score is properly normalised; 100 should be the mean average, but it doesn't look like that's the case here. Data seems fake.

Edit: Or they could've normalised it based on a US IQ score. There are other issues with the data, though.

I came here thinking that iq stood for something I didn't know. No way this is legit data!

I love how Africa is just the dumbest place in the world. /s

I really call bs on this map.

Why? The average IQ of the US is 100. Subsaharan Africa is 65. Japan is about 110. The map looks accurate to me.

The map looks accurate to me.

Oh, lucky us, we have a resident expert on the subject.

Damn right!

To be fair, some IQ tests include reading comprehension et al. They haven't said which tests and metrics they're using though, and it doesn't seem to match up to any of the admittedly low-quality lists I've found online.

I'm giving up on trying to justify this map until we get a proper source for the data.

The test is given in english.

The map of the ability to follow orders.

I've found the site this is from. It basically took established data and tweaked it:

To my mind the best addition is to have an additional column where country IQs are given corrected for sample size and data quality.

This… isn't how statistics work. You can't do this.

[–]JasonCarswell 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Good find.

I like how they "correct" the weather for the Climate Change Scam too.

[–]wizzwizz4 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

You can't do that, either.

The only thing you can correct for (if I'm not forgetting something) are systematic inaccuracies (e.g. your thermometer was set so that 2°C read 0°C). You can't correct for imprecision, like in the claim above.

[–]JasonCarswell 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

That's why it's a scam.

[–]wizzwizz4 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Well, there certainly are "corrections" that are fake. But there are others that are valid. It's really easy to do it wrong, though, so it's easier to get the right answer by discarding data instead of correcting it.

I'd like to see what would happen if someone spent five years gathering data without plotting it… seeing whether it was good data, making corrections where necessary (without forcing it to fit the trend, because they haven't yet seen the trend), discarding the bad data, and only then plotted it. But, sadly, nobody's going to do that, and I've got "better things" (heh, like there are better things) to do.

I've read through all currrent 12 comments; very interesting. The map somewhat follows the world by way of development it looks like. I actually think it's somewhat fair. There's no fairness in IQ, or ability, and I do think it's related to 'tribe', demographics, and even sociology.

On that note though, IQ testing seems really jaded to me, and there are different forms of intelligence out there. I mean, I've seen a retarded guy come up with 'the solution' when three normal men were also analyzing.

Shoot, intelligence, and ideas may not be any better than what some alien beams into our husks.

Didn't go to the site. But if green means high, I absolutely call BS on U.S. being green.

[–]wizzwizz4 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (8 children)

Green actually means "average".

[–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

Half of everyone is stupider than average and most of the rest are really close to being stupider.

Most folks are between 85 and 115. 110 is still very close to 99.

I'm not that smart at only 130, barely a Genius, far from 140 Mensa. (*According to a high school test c.1987.)

[–]wizzwizz4 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

What you're saying is technically correct, but cynical and misleading. I've only had a rudimentary look at statistics, but even I know that "110 is still very close to 99" isn't a useful observation.

It's more accurate to say that over half of the population is within ~15% of the average intelligence, as measured by IQ scores.

[–]JasonCarswell 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

Cynical but true. Most people overestimate their own awareness.

Myself included.

Would you be happier if I said 105 is close to 99. That's still a metric fucktonne. Close is subjective. My point is made regardless.

wizzwizz4 should rename to nitpick2much

[–]wizzwizz4 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Most people overestimate their own awareness.

Oh, now that's a different thing. IQ doesn't generally measure that.

Would you be happier if I said 105 is close to 99.

No. I'd be happier if you said 105 is close to 100. "Close to below" is useless. "Close to the boundary between above and below" is slightly less useless. "Close to average" is more useful, because it's both a useful value and not misrepresented.

And a better name would be something like "pedant4norealpurpose" because it has a 4 in it.

[–]JasonCarswell 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Most people overestimate their own awareness.

Oh, now that's a different thing. IQ doesn't generally measure that.

No, it support my premise that most people are stupider than you may think.

I didn't say "close to below". I said close to stupider.

I can't believe we're dissecting and debating a pun.

I'm done.

[–]wizzwizz4 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

I can't believe we're dissecting and debating a pun.

I need to learn to pick my battles. Woo self-improvement!

[–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Recognizing you need self-improvement doesn't mean you've improved. But at least it's a first step.

[–]wizzwizz4 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

That is true.

[–]happysmash27 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

More precise (in location) and historical data would be really interesting for this. Why, for example, does China seem to have such a higher average IQ than India?

[–]JasonCarswell 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I'd like to take an IQ test that Africans devise and see how well or poorly I do.

I'd also like to take one of their tests that favours their culture.

Chad and his frat brothers know what a regatta is even if they've only been to a few. Kids from the ghettos haven't. And I'm quite sure most in India and Africa don't even know what it is. Having "regatta" in an IQ test is a sure way to skew the test.
