I think it's because that's the tribe's native land as they defined it. They tracked buffalo so they needed the land to be able to follow the herds of buffalo around.

It kind of roughly correlates to the Missouri basin, but not really.

It says the treaty was violated because one tribe attacked another tribe that were supposed to share the land, 9 native nations participated in the contract. But broke it almost immediately by attacking each other, apparently.

Yeah, you're right, the Missouri basin sort of correlates, but not really a perfect match. Hunting buffalo makes a lot of sense. Thanks! :)
