I checked the source a little and the few I checked were all from 2020. Would really be interesting to see it all over time including more recently, otherwise we have no idea if this is unusual.

At least one saidit user is convinced it is and kept linking me searches from various search engines showing this same sort of thing has been going on in all recent years. So some people think it is, but possibly that's in spite of the evidence.

Another method would be to see if it's happening in other countries. That map makes it seem like it's largely occurring in Britain and the US, but this is likely skewed by the creator not scanning news in other languages.
