The history of the Jews in France deals with the Jews and Jewish communities in France. There has been a Jewish presence in France since at least the early Middle Ages. France was a center of Jewish learning in the Middle Ages, but persecution increased as the Middle Ages wore on, including multiple expulsions and returns. During French Revolution in the late 18th century, France was the first country in Europe to emancipate its Jewish population. Antisemitism has persisted despite legal equality, as expressed in the Dreyfus affair of the late 19th century.

Pretty sure all the 'banned' countries should have been Green (including the * disclaimer)

Like Spain: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Jews_in_Spain

Spanish Jews once constituted one of the largest and most prosperous Jewish communities in the world. Spain was the unquestioned leader of world Jewry: scientific and philological study of the Hebrew Bible began, Hebrew was used for the first time for secular poetry, and for the only time between Biblical times and the origins of the modern state of Israel, a Jew (Samuel ha-Nagid) commanded a Jewish army.[1] This period ended definitively with the anti-Jewish riots of 1391 and Alhambra Decree of 1492, as a result of which the majority of Jews in Spain (between 200,000 and 250,000) converted to Catholicism and those remaining (between 40,000 and 100,000) were forced into exile.

Or is this about the religion, because yeah, Christians (especially Catholics) disliked the religion throughout history [IIRC they made up the Jews eating babies for their evil religion].

So a disclaimer if it's about the people or the religion?

Oh and I'm not saying there wasn't antisemitism.

Interesting info. I know little about this time period, I just found the map and wanted to share it.

I also came across this list of years of expulsions of the jews from various countries, which seems to back up the OP map. If you look there are many listed in Europe in the late 1400s: http://judaism.is/images/jewishexpulsions.jpg?crc=381081817

Hmm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Jews_in_Europe also features a better map. But it lies a bit more nuanced.

It just looks weird, also a weird year to pick. I mean there weren't crusades.
