This honestly kind of blew my mind, I knew it was happening in the US but I didn't realize it was so global. And it's not like the definition of BMI has changed or anything, so it's not a measurement problem.

It's amazing for the first time in world history a large % of people's body shapes are changing significantly due to an abundance of food. Who knows what the implications of this will be.

I bet in 300 years they'll look back on how people treat health now the same way we look back at the idiosyncratic medical ideas of the 1700s. We're clearly missing the forest for the trees in a lot of ways when it comes to medicine. Not to mention the rise of mental health issues due to stress because of work culture and so on.

In a way humanity is advancing too fast to adapt to. But hopefully we're just on the fastest part of the S-curve and culture and technology will eventually settle in to a more sustainable and healthy state.

An abundance of the wrong kind of food. Highly processed, highly addictive, and devoid of nutrition. That is sadly the modern diet. But I think people are beginning to have a better idea about what healthy eating is. Thats why I started s/realfood, so we can have conversations about the how and why of eating for good health.
