I do not think it means what you think it means.

Edit: Nevermind, turns out when I looked the term up several months ago I had looked at the Oxford definition, but the Merriam-Webster definition does include "tending to produce horror in a beholder" as one of the three use cases, so your usage was actually correct. My apologies.

Hmm, I had heard the word before and my initial impression was that it was wrong (and the definition I got from google seemed to confirm this), but after your reading I did some more digging. It seems there's a bit of a discrepancy between how Oxford Dictionary defines the term, and how Merriam-Webster defines it.

Under the Oxford definition (the one I was familiar with), her use doesn't fit, but under the 3rd Webster definition (tending to produce horror in a beholder), it works, because hearing about some dude using fake blood to simulate a period could be considered horrifying.

Why starve? What is the reason those individuals starve themselves in relation with menstruations?

This is what I was wondering too! Whereas, most of the time, I can follow their "logic" (dopey as it is), the supposed connection between menstruation and "starving yourself" totally eludes me.

Is it that they think our period makes us physically exhausted/hungry? Or that depriving themselves of food makes guys bleed from their butt or something?

Can anyone explain this famished dude = menstruating woman reasoning? Cuz I'm baffled.

Complete fantasists. They live in a "yes" world with ever decreasing barriers to their obsession, Drs say yes to medication and surgery, their echo chamber of constant validation, LGB people fooled by the smokescreen and fear of being labelled a bigot...

But they cannot fool themselves and feel left out by actual menstruators.
