There is different "feel" to small Main Streets throughout the country. From the Soutwest to the Northeast to the MidWest to the Southeast, they have their own regional similarities.

I have 5 Main Streets/small towns all in a row to me within 20 miles and none look like this. Those main streets have to have a large enough population to support these businesses and even the largest one near me apparently does not. There is at least two Subway's and one Starbucks but they are not on the Main St drags so not sure how this applies. I was just in beautiful historic Shepherdstown, WV the other day and they still have a great downtown Main St with none of these. So many in this VA/WV and MD area have towns with Main Streets that do not resemble these. I realize some certainly do but plenty still do not.
