After the Shakeleton Expedition came what is called the Mechanical Age of Antarctic Exploration. Most notable of these expeditions were operation High Jump and Deep Freeze lead by Admiral Richard E Byrd. In an interview Byrd said that they had discovered vast habitable land with abundant natural resources. Shortly after Byrd's death on 1957, the Antarctic Treaty was signed, banning any military activity in the continent and severely restricting access to Antarctica except for specific scientific research.
Every treaty is meant to be broken. The fact that the Antarctic Treaty has been signed by virtually every developed nation and stood so long is a major red flag to me. There is much much more to this story.
