Imagine the vision required to, before the creation of the USA, actually seek to set up a government by the people for the people, based neither on oppression nor on lies (e.g. elaborate religious bullshit) but, rather, on reason and consent, ...
... this in a world where only monarchies/dictatorships, oligarchies, and/or assorted priesthoods had been ruling over people ...
