So ducks weren't a childish thing in the ancient world. They are just bullshitting. Mostly they were actually a fertility symbol, which would have been important for his inbred family.
Also do people really have zero memories of their own childhood and how they thought? An 8 year old child would have understood full well what becoming a king would mean. They might be a crap king but that's a different issue.
