placebo/nocebo .. snake oil worked for some for the same reason the poisons they give us today actually 'cures' some people...

we do it ourselves.

if you research just a little you'll find 'medicines' are little more effective than placebos.

all that is required is you believe it.

Some certainly are. I take particular umbrage with the entire antidepressant class. However, there's no real denying a number have very real effects. Even something as simple as drinking coffee in the morning to wake up shows that.

nothing they manufacture is interesting beyond what we already have .

literally, the medical industry is .. cocaine incorporated.

Rockefeller started as a snake oil seller. When they had control over oil, they funded scientists to sell oil as medicine. This quickly became other poison that was meant to fight the " bad things" in our bodies.

They are the reason why good food and healthy practice is not part of health care.

Personally I also think they invented statistical manipulation (like P-hacking) as a way to convince people that the medicine worked.
