VERY interesting, I wonder how much of the drastic changes are related to war, disasters or other events I've never considered.

Thank you, very intersting. Seeing Istanbul at the top near the 1500-1600 got me thinking, the Byzantine empire supossedly ended in 1452. What caused the explosion in population?

Maybe people emigrating from the collapsing outer cities to the main city hub in search of stability as the empire collapsed? Just a guess.

I don't really know though, that's a very good question.
