Jk - is it meant to be a 2D representation of 3D "waves"? or are the shapes intended to be perceived as 3D?

It is the graph produced when the x axis beats at one frequency and the y axis beats in another frequency. It's meant to be interpreted in a 2D way, but I'm sure you could come up with a valid 3D interpretation too
