I feel like the response of the poster was a bit overly mean; yes, the offer was ridiculously low, but usually, it is best to at least try to get something, even if the chances seem ridiculous, if it doesn't cost one anything; and perhaps this person just couldn't afford anything more, and was offering all they could just in case.
