Spanish people are white.

American Hispanics are mostly not white because they have more native ancestry.

The left in the US don't want to class Hispanics as natives or whites or both as that opens up a whole can of worms for their own centuries old narrative of there being mostly completely separate distinct groups in the USA struggling for power.

So they just make up a whole new race instead.

I think they don't think about centuries ago. History for the average leftist begins when they started paying attention. The intersectionality olympics is far more important to the modern useful idiot than slavery.
