The free publicity and parting kind words are the least they could do to repay her for betraying the people, her party, and the country on their corporate overlords' behalf.

It's like the nice words people feel obligated to say after using you for years to their own ends, before chucking your corpse in the ground.

I agree with your take this is part of payment to her but I don't think it stops here. I would expect the DNC to support her run as a Democrat, or for her to receive a cushy political appointment. I think she had a good idea going into this it meant throwing her career, as it was, away, and naturally, being a politician, secured some guarantees.

I think so too. She threw her career away, now they kind of owe her one. Heck, I even seen one ultra lib viewed article suggest she makes a Presidential candidacy run.

Yet, their current overt tactics seem to me, to imply they'd not use her as a Dem, but want her to be the straw-man unelectable GOP candidate to compete against. They seem to be consistently supporting what they believe to be bad candidates from their opponents as a tactic, so much that their own people have been loudly worried if that is a good idea....to radicalize candidates from the other side. This makes me a bit worried about how much the DNC's overt manipulation of the GOP primaries process defrauds democracy.

I thought that was stated policy at this point. DNC money went to pro Trump candidates they thought would be easy to defeat.
