Laying low is a good instinct in a thunder storm.

Your dog is probably wondering why the dumb humans are not doing the same.

I could not remember lightning safety beyond the basics, so I looked it up and realize I pretty much follow none of the safety guidelines besides not standing out in a storm with a big metal pole. https://www.cdc.gov/disasters/lightning/safetytips.html

Dogs don't follow best practices either.

Someone should really take it up with them.

I had a few dogs like this. It wasn't so bad with the small ones. But one of them was a bouvier-something mix, absolutely (for a dog) huge bastard, and there really wasn't any furniture that he could get under (or behind). As such, his go-to hiding spot was me.

It was a pretty fucking odd experience having him trying to pack his big self into my lap and crawl up into my shirt, while I was wearing it, every time it started storming or the 4th of July rolled around.

Pussy dog. Mine barks ferociously when he hears firecrackers, doesn't give a shit about thunder.

Dogs are animals that are easily impressed—cats are the opposite.
