Trump is the archetype 'elite' that Russian (RT) and Democrat (Media Matters) propaganda has been the focus off since at least 2005.
You can't blame people for being programmed by propaganda. Propaganda works, that's why it's used. But you can blame the propagandists, they should know better, but they don't.
So it's not that far fetched to say Democrat's would prefer a serial killer to Trump because the propagandists they follow are likely to fit a similar profile - narcissistic, lacking empathy, manipulative etc.

Granted the dude was a smooth speaker. hell even the judge gave him props for defending himself before sentencing him to death
