Also why did Clark choose journalist? He could be closer to the action as a first responder. At least hotel security or something.

It was the 1930s dude. Journalism was a respectable trade back then. "First responder"? You know how long ago Clark Kent was invented, right?

I'm not so sure. Independent journalism was at war with the for for-profit corporate "kept press". This started around the time of WW1, which predates superman.

Corporate media crushed the independent competition through advertising dollars. Corporations wouldn't purchase ads from more honest independent media.

"Truth, justice, and the American way." Superman has surely been a propaganda device since the beginning.

I wonder if DC was/is actually US state sponsored. That could explain the reason "DC" comics always sucked, but never went out of business... It's also consistent with the American flag being pasted all over their characters.

It could also explain the Superman episodes from the 40's that had a budget which costed hundreds of thousands of dollars in today's $'s.

This series is unbelievably good for a 40's production.
It's still impressive in it's attention to detail 80 years later. I was blown away the first time I saw it.
The investment doesn't make sense, unless it's propaganda. Then it makes perfect sense.

Anyway, Marvel has Captain America, so they're not really any better.

Although DC's writing is generally more hammy.
