Pushed to the fringe, this awakening is a sort of look back, TIL does not apply because the L took a few days, not T. Hypothesis is Great Awakening comprises a series of mini-awakenings. The greatness comes from so many people experiencing them.
The Pill that spilled my beans, was a brief video from PragerU, What Is the Alt-Right? Michael Knowles 2017 video 3.8 min | prgrU
Speaker Knowles explains the Alt in AltRight would be more truthful if it said AltLeft. I began thinking about that with the background of comments received from well established users of s/debatealtright. I slowly aroused from slumbers of ignorance and got a clearer picture of this group. Their very brief negative comments in my posts were smoke-screens for "don't like this", similar to the 'right' in altright is a smokescreen for "socialist". Next step, the 'debate' in community name should be 'de bait', because these folks are not into exploration, they are into in doctrine nation (LoL).
I suppose the smoky confusion might be cleared-up if we had more and better labels for attitude positions in the political/ideology spectra. But since this is culture war, and the overriding theme of conflict is deception, there won't be any great awakening of the truth-in-labeling kind.
For grins only, let's have a point-run-down of the PragerU video.
smallish, fringe cringe group
obsessed with race, identity politics (judge people by group affiliation, not personal traits; racial identity is heritable, so this belief aligns with the old-world higher respect for pedigree than earned merit)
success of whites due to race, geography (sacred homelands.. don't confuse with J Diamond's geography arguments in Guns, Germs, Steel which is a case from natural consequences; Blut und Boden is a case from cultural rights of heritage)
1:50 Richard Spencer recently declared support for Joe Biden, which strongly supports Knowles' case that altright wants overbearing government power, aka supremacy (see study notes for more)
2:55 Admires Christianity for uniting Europe? I disagree; Christianity is just another Judaic scam, and European unity never existed, would not be a good thing if it did; how well does EU work? See next bullet point... Rejects God and established religions, agree: this is a gripe from old style conservatives, something Dennis Prager is about, so sure, it's part of the video.
3:24 longs for (wants) an ideology as "robust (dominant) and binding (mandatory)" as Christianity (Catholicism means universal) to replace traditional religion. (altright folks admire the supreme regime, not the dopey doctrine)
3:30 disdain for individual! a fundamental American value, the individual more important than collective; altright is the reverse
core identities, alt-right (aka left)
promote white identity politics (love your race, me ok)
reject notion of (Jewish) god (and source Jews, me ok)
subordination of individual to collective (Marxism & big gov't, me NOT ok)
This last item is a major divergence from my own thinking.
Knowles omitted one more item, dominance. Well, honestly it was mentioned as "supremacy", but did not appear on his agenda list. Maybe because Conservatives embrace it as much as the left and alt-right, so no contrast. In my world, dominance, supremacy, arrogance, callousness, emphasis on brute power, these are the sources of evil in our world more than those other things.
The alt-right is conservative in the sense of retrofitting to ante-bellum Old South values: slavery and hereditary social classes and powerful church-like omnipotence, but without the taint of middle-east origins, thus to ante-bellum 1930s Germany, a racially cleansed old-Euro ethno-state.
what nation best represents 'overbearing government power'?
how china communist party, CCP has 'overbearing government power'?
